Leaders Breakfast

Several members of the Richmond Chapter attended the 36th Annual Community Leaders Breakfast at the downtown Marriott on January 17th. Virginia Union University hosts the event each year in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy. This year’s Keynote Speaker was Dr. Roslyn M. Brock, Chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors.

This years recipient of the lifetime of service at 36th Annual Community Leaders Breakfast was Dr. Allix B. James, the 7th President of VUU. When 34 VUU students were arrested for conducting a sit in at a segregated lunch counter on Feb 22, 1960. Dr. James and his wife used their home as collateral to keep the students from spending a night in jail. It was truly an honor to see this man .
