In recognition of the achievements of African-American women in the arts, the Richmond Chapter dedicated its 7th Biennial Art Auction to the memory of world-renowned African-American printmaker and sculptor Elizabeth Catlett. Three-hundred people attended this very special evening on Saturday, April 20 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA). President of the Richmond Chapter, Link Kelly Harris-Braxton, greeted guests and extended a special welcome to Eastern Area Director, Link Dianne Hardison.

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of Elizabeth Catlett’s bronze sculpture, Standing Mother and Child by event chairwoman, Link Jill Bussey Harris and Link Corliss V. Archer. This exceptional sculpture was donated to VMFA by the Richmond Chapter. Link Bussey Harris also gave special recognition to community Honorary Chairs, Eva Teig Hardy and Alex Nyerges, director of VMFA, for their contributions and commitment.

Before dinner and a live auction, Link Marilyn H. West, Chair of Corporate Giving for the event, thanked all of the community and corporate sponsors as well as major contributors for their support. Local CBS-affiliate anchor, Link Stephanie Rochon-Moten served as Mistress of Ceremonies. 72 544×376

Preliminary estimates from the event indicate that over $100,000.00 was raised. In addition to VMFA, beneficiaries include the Fisher House of Richmond (a comfort home for families of veterans receiving treatment at local health facilities), Virginia Union University, and other local nonprofit agencies.
